Some plant foods can activate a gene that helps reduce the amount of fat you store and increase the amount of fat you burn. This gene, SIRT1, has therefore been dubbed the “skinny” gene.
If you want to burn more fat, it may be helpful to include foods rich in these substances in your diet. These foods are known as “sirtfoods” (sirtuin-activating foods). Foods that can activate your Sirt1 gene include: strawberries, apples, grapes, tofu green tea and turmeric.

Another benefit of plant foods is that they contain a range of plant nutrients known as phytonutrients. Phytonutrients have biological activities that support human health, including maintaining and modulating your immune function.
