Even during lockdown, it is important to let the sun on your skin. If you can’t get out and don’t have a garden, could you sit on your doorstep or do you have a balcony? If not, could you sit by an open window to get some fresh air and sun on your skin?
How this helps your immune system and your weight…
Sunshine on our skin is our main source of vitamin D. Vitamin D has many important functions in your body, including supporting your immune system. It is also involved in how your body regulates fat storage – if you are low in vitamin D, you are more likely to be overweight.
You need vitamin D to make and use the ‘feel-good’ chemical serotonin properly. If your serotonin is low, you may feel depressed and crave carbs. If you want to know more, try our e-book: Align your appetite with your needs.
Wearing sunscreen with SPF15 or above blocks vitamin D production by your skin. However, it is important to make sure that your skin does not burn.
